The Delegation Age: Artificial Intelligence, Human Judgment, and the Responsibility We Cannot Give Away

By: Taylor, George

AI can do more of our work. Who still answers for the result?

A machine drafts a report, recommends a treatment, evaluates a job applicant, or helps a child learn. Each useful result makes the next delegation easier. Over time, the work moves. So does the authority. The consequences still reach people.

In The Delegation Age, George L. Taylor examines how artificial intelligence is changing work, education, medicine, creativity, relationships, and government. His central concern is what happens to human judgment when increasingly capable systems perform more of the thinking and acting we once did ourselves.

What happens to first jobs when machines take over the work through which people learn? Who receives the gains from greater productivity? What must a doctor, parent, judge, or business leader still be able to question, stop, or change?

Taylor develops eight principles for responsible delegation and an Accountability Test readers can apply to a real decision. The framework asks who owns the goal, what authority has been granted, who can intervene, and whether the person affected has a meaningful path to an answer and a remedy.

Written for readers who want to understand AI's social and economic consequences, this book offers a clear way to think about the choices behind the technology. Better tools can expand human possibility. Using them well requires people and institutions capable of answering for what happens next.

Delegate the work. Never delegate the accountability.
