looks like Catcher In The Rye for a reason...he captures life at a boarding school the way few can. He draws upon the most current research in adolescent development and presents it in a very user-friendly way. A wonderful read for anyone who works with teens.

As a former student of Dean Swanson's, I cannot say enough about this book to my friends and colleagues. I decided to enter the field of education largely because of my experience at the school which he writes of in his text. The dedicated personality of Swanson comes clearly through in the powerful and meaningful voice of this educator and dean, in his writing. The stories are humorous, insightful and helpful in thinking about effective methods for working with teenagers. I highly recommend this book to all. A+ Swanee!

As a faculty member at a New England Boarding School, Glenn Swanson's book clearly strikes a chord with me. However, this is not a book purely about kids at independent schools. It's a book about teenagers and the complicated world that they operate in. Swanson's book is essential for those of us who are parents, educators, counselors, or anyone else who works or lives with children. Today's generation of teenagers has to face a host of challenges that most of us couldn't imagine when we were younger. The anecdotes and advice from Dean Swanson provide us all with some "back-up" when working with teens. I cannot recommend it highly enough!
