Book Overview

'Three warnings: (1) Never let your grandma read this work; (2) Never start reading this book late in the night-you will lose a good night's sleep; (3) If you don't heed warning number two, leave the lights on when you go to sleep. This is a horror thriller, a psychological thriller, a whodunit, and a wonderful mystical thriller all rolled into one, providing a wonderful, wonderful read."
-Narayan Radhakrishnan, New Mystery Reader

He used ropes prepared with slip knots and quickly bound her hands and her ankles. Next, he pulled a small piece of duct tape from his pocket and pressed it tightly over her mouth. Then he flipped her over onto her back. He stood up and looked down at her. He smiled. She was totally helpless, completely unprotected, and she was his.

Tears streamed down the sides of her face through eyes wide with terror and she shook uncontrollably. She fought hard against her restraints and the ropes cut into her wrists and ankles causing them to bleed. Her shoulders, thrust backwards under her, began to ache and her full weight pressed on her arms, constricting her circulation and numbing the fingers of her hands.

Reviewed by William Phenn for Reader Views (12/06) Gerard F. Bianco is a Brooklyn, New York born writer who was raised among the smoky pool halls, Italian social clubs and Irish bars. This atmosphere was the inspirational influence which sparked his book "The Deal Master." Mr. Bianco took me on a trip through terror. Right from the start, Gerard brought me onto a scene of a woman that was brutally murdered, a very graphic murder that included a strange sexual twist. As the story progressed, women were being mutilated and murdered, but the lead detective on the case, William Gillette, had clues but no suspects. The horror mounted with every chapter as Detective Gillette follows one dead end after another and the web of intrigue just seems to be getting bigger with every victim. All the victims had particular characteristics and all were killed in a similar sadistic fashion. They were killed in a very strange and cruel way to say the least. Along the way Gillette has his own life struggles with an ex-wife, his job and some very interesting and dangerous encounters; but manages to sift through it all and enjoy some amorous moments too. "The Deal Master" continued to keep me guessing every step of the way to the grand finale. This book is a thriller. A well written Who-Done-It that kept my eyes glued to its 249 pages. I thoroughly enjoyed "The Deal Master" from the first page to the last. It had all the ingredients that a good mystery novel should have and then some. Mr. Bianco has excelled in this fine work and I can do no more than to give "The Deal Master" my best A+ rating. If you are a mystery buff, this is one volume you will want for your library.

get past the gore

The first pages are not for the squeamish, but I have convinced several people to persevere, and all agree that "The Deal Master" is rewarding reading. I read this book back to back with Mary Higgins Clark's latest("Two Little Girls in Blue")and was so aware that Bianco's characters came to life, and stayed with me after reading, while I barely could keep track of who was who in Clark's pitiful effort. The plot twists and turns and the final outcome is just brilliant...you can not guess it. I look forward to the sequel.

The Deal Master - a reader's review

The Deal Master by Gerard F. Bianco has more suspenseful twist and turns than a downhill plummet on San Francisco's famous Lombard Street - without brakes! This is a roller coaster of a read that will keep the reader entranced until the very end. The author introduces each character in a timely fashion and builds a clear, detailed image of them. They are strong and resourceful, loveable or sinister and all very suspect. The Deal Master has it all. Love, hate, ambition, intrique, detachment, brutality, chilling horror, remorse - virtually the complete gambit of the human experience - normal and depraved. All in a very polished delivery that keeps the reader up reading just one more chapter. Sequels? You bet! The readers will demand them.

Get Ready For A Ride

I'll tell you what I liked about this book. I am an avid mystery reader. I enjoy a book that I can sit down and relax with. I guess in a way that means that I enjoy a predictable read. As I was reading The Deal Master I found myself enjoying the book and then thinking, "What's going on?" The book is by no means predictable. It called on my full attention. And as I gave the story more attention, it delivered more to me. The story pulls you in. And once it has you, and just when you think you have a handle on it, Wham! The story takes off in a different direction like a rocket ship. If you are like me and enjoy Robert Parker, Michael Connelly, Patricia Cornwell, Stuart Woods and John Sanford I think you will thoroughly enjoy this book. Just don't make the mistake I did and think that this novel is like anything written by these other authors, because it is not. It goes beyond.
