The Deadly Mantis

It's man versus insect in The Deadly Mantis, a thrilling classic from the golden age of sci-fi cinema! When a giant, thousand-ton, carnivorous praying mantis is released from its million-year slumber in the frozen Arctic, a determined commander (Craig Stevens), a paleontologist (William Hopper) and a photojournalist (Alix Talton) work together to stop its terrible path of deadly destruction. As it walks, leaps and flies towards Washington DC, the fate of a nation rests on stopping the menacing insect by any means possible.

What bee movie?... This is a mantis movie!

This movie starts with many interesting facts. First, there is a physics lesson on "for each action, there is an equal and opposite reaction"; A volcano on one side of the earth will cause soap bubbles to flow over mantises on the other end of the world (remember the butterfly effect?) Then we can take pride in our early warning system, even if it is not bug-proof. Now you may pick on Alix Talton for screaming every time a mantis peeks in the window; however, how many 50's movies do you find independent women in that do not rely upon and make goo-goo eyes at their bug-hunting boss? Her character is on even par with William Hopper's character. It is still suspenseful. Do not tell me you did not jump every time the roof caved in. At one point the see the three marks of Arny Saknussemm; oops, a different movie. Other movies to add to the flamethrower collection are “Them!” (1954) and "Tarantula” (1955), they are not bee movies either.
