A wonderful read from a beloved columnist

Everyone who's been missing Horgan's wit and insight in the Hartford Courant, where his columns had such a loyal following, will be thrilled to get their hands on "The Dawn of the Days." Everybody else will consider themselves fortunate to meet him on the page!

An excellent read and an incisive commentary.

Often in my religious experience I have often some variation of the following observation: "if Jesus were to come back today, unheralded, he would be shocked and dismayed at the state of the church that bears his name, and we would likely rush to crucify him again." The Dawn of Days is the first novel from veteran journalist and author Denis Horgan and is a compelling and incisive treatise on that very premise. Through the eyes of battle-weary and jaded journalist Michael Endicott , Horgan paints a vivid picture of a world gone mad where government, media and religious institutions remain in virtual lockstep battle against any who hold differing ideals from those in the seats of power. As Endicott struggles to find his own place in this chaos around him, he is assigned the seemingly unimportant task of investigating David Rhodes, a quiet and gentle speaker who is gaining a small but loyal following teaching the radical message of grace, peace and love in a world which neither values nor understands any of those concepts. The Dangerous Intersection

Here's good news for fans of Denis Horgan, former (Hartford) Courant columnist. Last year, Horgan charmed readers with his collection of essays called, "Flotsam" A Life in Debris." Now he's back with a novel that examines the dangerous intersection where religion, politics and the media meet. "The Dawn of Days" (Ladder Press, $14.99) asks us to imagine what would happen if a gentle, messianic man with a message of peace, love, forgiveness and justice were to arrive and soon attract a following that rapidly becomes a phenomenon. How would governments that thrive on conflict, churches that jealously guard their wealth and power, and media that promote extremism deal with such a man? The novel combines allegory with contemporary issues to tell its story, and Horgan spares no sacred cows in his determination to expose hypocrisy. It is narrated by a TV newsman who gets too involved with the man with the mission, to the peril of each. Horgan's newspaper columns were thought-provoking.
