The Dawg Days of Winter Synopsis of Material Set in the 1980's, Micah Debone, a 24 year old from Seattle, is a moderately successful Freestyle Skier who dreams of membership on the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team. After a mediocre performance at a National Championship in Winter Park, Colorado, he realizes he is unfulfilled with his life in Seattle, and feeling thirsty for new adventure and romance, he sets out to move to Colorado in a VW Bug packed to the gills with his stuff, much to the disappointment of his family. Upon arriving in Colorado, he meets a wild group of skiers who he quickly bonds with. Together, uncertain of their futures, they revel in their present - competing on the Rocky Mountain Division freestyle competition tour, in the three freestyle disciplines - aerials, moguls, and ballet. The story explores the motivations behind what makes the thrill-seeking skiers do what they do, and the hopes and dreams of youth who are traveling, exploring, and wandering towards a chancy destiny. Micah also meets Angela, a successful lawyer who has turned her back on a promising career in D.C., throwing it away so she can take a winter and 'just ski, just be.' Through her love and the influence and inspiration of his friends and colleagues, Micah strives to achieve his dream of competing in the National Championships, where the prize is a spot on the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team, and possible participation in the Olympics. Throughout the novel, the reader is introduced to Freestyle Skiing as a cultural phenomenon, interacting with the many strange and colorful characters that Micah encounters along his journey. Together, they search for thrills, romance, competitive glory and personal fulfillment, while fighting the fears and self-doubt of youth. Micah also has a strange obsession... he feels that something is missing in his spiritual life... and he hopes to find the answer while in the middle of a triple-twisting, triple somersault jump on skis...
