When I began reading DMB Music for the People by Nevin Martell, I immediately developed a craving for learning as much about DMB as I could. I'll admit that when I began the read, I was not very knowledgeable of DMB, its past and roots... I just knew I loved the music. The easiness in which Martell included the facts made them easy to remember, and I found myself sharing my newly learned information about DMB with others. Also, Martell seems to have acquired his information in a way that still allows the members of the band their own privacy, and by the members being allowed to keep some things private, it shows the respect Martell has for DMB. That aspect alone makes me respect Martell more. Martell seemingly captures the personality of the band within his book. My quest now is to make it to a show and fully experience DMB. This is due largely because of the way Martell has captured the personality of the band. I can't wait to see it in person rather then just read about it. But if I had to resort in just reading about it, I would rely on Martell's words to take me there. Another plus is all the lists Martell includes - the cds, gigography, etc. I've beocme a follower - and in the music for the people this person has found her soul.... again and again with every note that is heard.
Very Informative

I am a huge DMB fan. I am from Hampton, Va. which is about two and one-half hours from Charlottesville, Va. where this all started, and I think people around here are starting to get an idea of what a great band this is! This book covered everything about the band. The interviews that were included in the writing were very nicely added by Mr. Martell and they flowed with the rest of the story that he was telling. I found out things about Dave and the rest of the band that I probably wouldn't have anywhere else. From the background of all the members of the band, to explaining the meanings of the songs, and what Dave and the band had in their minds when writing them. To all of the web sites mentioned and the list of all the CDs with all the songs listed too. If you are a huge DMB fan like myself and you want to get more inside info on the band I strongly recommend this book! I also strongly recommend seeing DMB in concert! It is well worth it because it is the best show around from the best entertainers around! Enjoy! I did and still do!
It made me want to see a live concert.......big time!

The book was well-organized, bringing the reader along on the journey with the band. I liked the humanization of the band members and got an appreciation for what they were trying to accomplish as musicians as well as entertainers. The author's respect for this band was evident throughout the book. After reading this book, I would like to experience a live concert. Until then, I have borrowed my daughter's CD's. Thanks to the author, I now know the history behind each song and each album. I will read his next book!
A great book to curl up on the couch with!

All of you who bashed this book should be ashamed of yourselves! This book is great! I believe I read it in one setting! I liked that it was easy to read and didn't contain a lot of musical jargon (that some of us know nothing about!) I thought that Nevin did a great job without doing an interview himself. I, personally don't feel like getting on the internet to look up every interview, so I found it very convienent. I am also glad that there is another piece of literature out there about my favorite band! Thanks for writing it!
Great Book for any reader that wants to learn about the band

This book starts off with information that every fan wants to know. It gives indepth stories that help out missing pieces of the bands rise to stardom. There is an excellent venue list at the back of the book that helps everyone chart the travels of the band. The best part about the whole book is that the author gives his email address that allows for any reader to email him with more info. Truely a great book
