About the Author
Fatima Sambo Schoenfelder is an illustrator, author and puppeteer who was born in Harlem and raised in the South Bronx with four brothers and her parents, who immigrated from Ghana.
She will forever be grateful for the guidance she received from her first and third grade art teachers Mr. Pollack (not Jackson ) and Mr. Bravo, and from her dance teacher Ms. Anderson at P.S. 156 Benjamin Banneker.
As a junior high student at I.S. 139 Alexander Burger/The South Bronx Community Action Theater, Fatima was an intern for a community head-start program. There, she gained an appreciation for early arts education.
Fatima subsequently spent time studying art and education at LaGuardia High School, Hunter College, Parsons, FIT and City College, and then years working as an arts educator with students and families from underserved communities in schools, after school programs and the Bronx Museum.
She is a puppeteer at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre in Central Park and performs her own puppet show based on this very book
Fatima lives in Harlem with her husband, their son and two dogs.
