While escalation of a local nuclear conflict in South Asia into Armageddon seemed possible, that threat was mitigated by the rapprochement of the US and Russia after Glasnost. This situation allowed the writer to envisage Dandelion as a joint US/CIS "black" project to preserve a microcosm of the human race in a self-sustaining settlement on the invisible side of the Moon and, later, to spread the seeds of humanity - first to Mars and later to other suitable locations within and beyond the Solar System.

This book is the first in a series of four books, which commences with the last, eventful pre-war flight of immigrants to that lunar colony, and continues by introducing the reader to its workings and the events in it following the global war which resulted in the comprehensive nuclear contamination of Earth.
