I never wanted to take over the world. I just wanted to have a relevant part of something meaningful. Rice had hopes and dreams. And he discovered a technology he thought might enable him to achieve them. What he lacked was knowledge and resources. I had plenty of what he needed. But his hopes and dreams were too audacious, utterly ridiculous. Then again, I had nothing better to do, and he was fascinating. Rice was convinced his technology could be humanity's salvation. But it could as easily be the seed of their destruction. Do I really want to be a part of his hubris?
