Sixteen-year-old Jane is every parent's dream daughter. If somewhat introverted, she's also responsible, scholastically motivated, and attractive. Jane discovers a locked Saratoga (steamer) trunk in her parent's garage attic. When she finds a key and opens the trunk, she unintentionally releases the ancient Egyptian 'Abydos curse' upon herself.

The curse, now released from the trunk, engulfs her. She enlists the aid of university professors and Egyptologists to unravel the mystery. During their investigation, Jane unexpectedly disappears. A worldwide search commences and soon focuses on Egypt's Valley of the Kings.
