In a world called "Meddle," so named for its Pantheon's overinvolvement in the lives of mortals, a reluctant hero, spurred on by a medical condition called the "Heroic Heart" which spontaneously prompts him to engage in feats of unwilling bravery, must defy the role-playing game-like limitations of the "curse" laid upon Meddle by Arpiji, the God of Systems, to claim the prize of immortality dangled before all those doomed to die otherwise. Book 1: The Hero and the Goddess Hero Character wants to live out his days as a solitary writer, but after rescuing urea, the Goddess of Music, Art, and Literature, from three lecherous bandits, The Muse convinces the reluctant hero to embark on a quest to obtain immortality by defeating the living conduits of Darkness known as the "Nusquam" and their leader, "Last Boss," who seeks the subjugation of the world of Meddle and the demise of its Pantheon. Book 2: The Cult of Yatan As Hero and urea continue their quest, The Party encounters members of a cult that worships urea's fallen sister Liviana, the disgraced Goddess of Light turned Goddess of Darkness. This "Cult of Yatan" soon impedes The Party, leading to a confrontation with the Goddess of Darkness herself. Book 3: The Curse is Broken The last of the Nusquam falls, but even as The Party conquers Yatan herself, they soon face a much greater foe, all in the name of restoring peace to Meddle and breaking the Curse of Arpiji.
