Syd Cumberland has been operating his own successful business in Caliente, Nevada that has been in his family for three generations. After the stocked market crash in October 1929, Syd has been struggling to keep his business afloat.His family's wants have changed to needs when the depression enters their way of life. Syd's wife Belle is a wonderful wife and mother. She is doing everything that she can to make ends meet. She gets creative to get the things that they need for their three daughters, Mary, Ella, Liza, and one son, James.Mary, Ella, Liza, and James have talents that flow in different directions.
