Utilizing a science fiction genre, this story explores the growing movement in the United States of children organizing environmental clubs. These children are beginning to speak out and march in protest about the deteriorating conditions of this planet that they will inherit. The following excerpt is an example of the basic theme of the story. "Someday soon," said the girl, "you will become a famous orator on behalf of the environment. Children are beginning to speak out about the changes to your planet. A planet they will inherit. Some adults are beginning to listen. There is a movement among the children, and all movements need a voice to lead them. You will become that voice!" "You think so?" asked Kathryn, as she thought how impossible that sounded. After all she was just a nine year old kid. "I know so!" replied the girl, "You're probably thinking that you're just a child, but in your world, when it comes to the environment, the children are the adults and most of the adults are the children!"
