Despite the objections of his wife, Isabella, Lord Philip Whyford determines to accompany King Richard I on crusade to the Holy Land. After two years of waiting, Isabella is devastated when his cousin, Roger, returns with the news that Philip is dead. As Philip had no sons, Roger is his heir and wastes no time in laying claim to the title and estate. She determines to go to the Holy Land, to learn the truth about Philip's mistress and the son she bore him. She has no other option.
