When cookbook writer Cathleen Daley finds a brochure for an extravagant and expensive Caribbean cruise buried in the mail, she believes her husband Joe-steady, but not known for extravagant anything-is planning a trip for them, to celebrate their upcoming thirtieth wedding anniversary. Then she learns that The Cruise is an event planned by her in-laws for her ever-present mother-in-law, and does not include any spouses. And clueless Joe doesn't see anything wrong with it.

Resentment, anger, and angst she didn't know she harbored boil to the surface and change how Cathleen sees her husband, her extended family, and herself. Before she can explode, or implode, Cath goes on a sabbatical to Charleston, South Carolina, but soon learns her three adult children have crises of their own.

Thirty years and four children is a lot of water under the marital bridge. Does she really want to walk away from all that shared history because of a vacation she wasn't invited on? Before she can decide, Cath needs to figure out why the cruise for her mother-in-law makes her so angry, and most importantly, what her life will look like after it docks.
