The Cruise in Canoes follows the Mouse Family-Papa, Peter, Lucy, and the twin brothers Benji and Joey-as they set out for a fun-filled canoeing adventure at Lost Forest Park. After unloading their canoes and gearing up with safety vests, the mice stumble upon a surprising mystery: the spruce trees they had planted near their swimming spot are missing their tops. The young mice paddle into the peaceful waterways to solve the mystery and search for water lilies and other wonders of creation.
But their friendly competition quickly turns into a challenge when a wave knocks Benji's paddle into the lake, leaving the twins spinning in circles. Thankfully, Peter and Lucy spot the missing paddle and reunite with their flustered brothers, reminding everyone why staying together matters.
Their investigation leads them to a freshly built dam beneath a bridge-and the culprits soon reveal themselves. A family of busy beavers has used the cut trees to construct a new lodge. Instead of being upset, the mice learn to consider others' needs, recognising that the beavers needed a home far more than they needed extra shade.
The adventure continues with flower hunting, close calls with tipping canoes, and joyful discoveries of white, yellow, and purple water blossoms. After a full day of teamwork, laughter, and wonder, the mice paddle home at sunset, share their stories with Papa, and reflect on the beauty of God's creation and the lessons learned. The book closes with a reminder of gratitude, family togetherness, and seeing God's handiwork in the world around us.
