Elroy rode into the group that was now partly drunk on moonshine, when they invited him to join in the fun. When he refused, the leader called for a triple hanging and his drunken followers let out a roar of approval and came for Elroy. That was a mighty dangerous thing to do to an unwilling participant with a double barreled 8-gage shotgun loaded with buckshot. Elroy cut into them with the shotgun and then unlimbered his two hoglegs.When he was done, only the judge and his friend were left standing. Nine outlaws lay on the ground, along with several of their followers. The judge was pale and shaking. His friend said, "That's the Elroy I remember from the war. Shoot fast and accurate. He's really a doctor and a preacher. When it's needed, he brings hell-fire to the evil-doers, helping them to reach their eternal destination."
