I have not read this book recently. At one point in my life, it was a lifesaver to me and I read it every day faithfully. I now re-order it so that I can re-visit some of the issues she brought "to light" for me. I felt like this book had solid, practical and genuinely helpful pieces of information. If I had to recommend any one book for healing shame, this would be it. She kinda takes the sting out of things that can typically (or maybe not so typically) plague, stifle, or hinder one. Not only is the book relatively emotionally sophisticated, I think that one of its strengths (or selling points) for me is that it also provides perspectives that ring true to life. No simple platitudes, trite cliches, "New Age" confusing 'peppishnes,' or borrowed ideas from a culmination of different books and sources tediously weigh the book down. It is original in that the reader gives voice to her authentic experience. The ideas make sense. She makes sense. Although the author is blind, it is this "limitation" which ironically further enhances her ability to "truly see."
