The Counterweight of an Elevator

A little girl and her family are devastated by the death of her father. He is the son of Gavi's grandparents who were supposed to be a great part of her life. He has two siblings, and they are the uncle and aunt to the little girl, but none of these relationships were the same as the result of her father's death. Her and her siblings' lives are changed forever.

Gavi, as a very young child, experiences the presence of God and totally believes in His existence. Gavi's mother becomes a single parent of four children because of the death of her husband. As a result, she struggles to support them. Later, more children are added unto the family with other men that Gavi's mother were with but did not get married to.

Life with her mom goes down dark paths that Gavi did not experience while her father was alive. Gavi realizes that all the pain and suffering is not God's fault, but it will take a long while for her to come this realization. Gavi faces death early in life in such a traumatic way with the death of her father.
