Adolescence is considered to be the transitional stage from childhood to adulthood. This stage of life plays an important role in the formation of a prosocial or antisocial adult. Adolescents deal with a lot of emotional highs and lows. They are expected to deal with hormonal changes, puberty, social and parental forces, work and school pressures, as well as unprecedented stresses concerning school and college, and career confusion situations. All these adolescent problems are multifarious and linked to one another. A pattern of behaviour problems is the best interpreter of misbehaviour in adolescence.

Behaviour modification is concerned with the analysis and modification of human behaviour. The value of behaviour modification techniques for improving a wide variety of behaviours has been amply demonstrated in many researches. It is essential for counsellors, parents and teachers to be well aware of the behaviour problems in adolescents and also be skilled enough to manage those problems.
