After his retirement, Henry Johnson drives the back roads of America and stirs up benign mischief along the way-all in the attempt to help an unsuspecting stranger in need of a fresh deal from life's deck-of-cards. With his truck, Maggie, full of essentials and not-so-essentials, Henry stops in the podunk town of Karchner, Nebraska, little more than a bend in Highway 26. While eating breakfast at Nelda's Cafe, he jests with its spit-and-vinegar proprietor, Mabel, and obtains the name of a family who might need his help. In fact, Titus and Beatrice Smithing are just the sort of people he's been hankering to meet. Henry trundles out to the Smithing spread and finds the ornery, down-on-his-luck black rancher less than receptive. With his "whatever" charm, Henry entrenches himself in the Smithings' lives, shares their sorrows and fears, earns their friendship, and transforms their future with humor and hard work. The Cottonwoods of Titus Smithing is an uplifting, crusty, literary tale bound to cause knee-slapping and eye-dabbing
The Cottonwoods of Titus Smithing is a book you will want to read as you follow the adventure of a retired Doctor who actually goes out in search of a very different and refreshing adventure. He wants to do something good for a deserving person. The adventure is full of humor, human stories mixed in with a bit of sad thrown in. There are several little surprises that will catch the reader a bit--a very refreshing read!

Are you ready for a new kind of hero? Would you like to have faith in the human soul again? Then you need to read "The Cottonwoods of Titus Smithing." The author presents to the reader an opportunity to connect with the salt of the earth - the hard workers of America. Through the use of vivid imagery and decriptive wording - you can visualize the "adventure" of Henry. The sentence structure is unique, but truly fits the characters he is protraying. There are moments when you'll laugh out loud, and others when you'll snicker to yourself. You find that you're crossing your fingers that everything will work out okay. I highly recommend you give this book a reading!
A great read for every person.

I am a really picky reader and I get bored very easily with most books. This book is different because the author has introduced a refreshing style of writing that makes it difficult to put the book down! I loved it!
