Compelling

I was surprised at how this one kept you reading. I started it with an audio book. Beautifully put together.

Loved this style

Using personal letters to deliver a story is not new (A Woman of Independent Means), but the challenge of keeping the characters straight and piecing together the story was fun and a great mental exercise. Only having snippets leaves so much room for your own imagination rather than having everything handed to you. I loved the pleasant and unexpected turns. Be ready too, for unexpected emotional connections and reactions.

Great format for a novel

Impressed. A friend recommended. The repeatedly saw it on “must-read lists”. Which, to be honest, made me skeptical, as I don’t often appreciate “mainstream” books. It is EXCELLENT (in my opinion). I think it should be required reading for literary classes. The unusual format WORKS. Nice to have the mental exercise to follow the character development. Highly recommend

A Beautiful, Gut-Wrenching Masterpiece

I don’t even have the words to describe this book—I’ve been crying from start to finish. The Correspondent is a stunning, deeply moving exploration of life, grief, and everything that makes us human. It is truly a beautiful story, and I am still reeling from the emotional impact of it. It’s funny to look back now, because 40 pages in, I honestly wasn’t sure if this book was going to be for me. I am so incredibly glad I kept going. It ended up being one of the most powerful, gut-wrenching reading experiences I’ve ever had. If you want a book that will absolutely break your heart in the most beautiful way possible and leave you sobbing, you need to read this immediately. This is a five-star read in every sense of the word.

Loved following the characters life through the letters she wrote.

What a brilliant writing style! I was captivated. Evans says what she thinks but has compassion to share and spare. I highly recommend this book.
