The contribution of regional integration to the development process

Regional integration has become a topical concept, and the aim of this thesis is to determine and evaluate the effect of Chad's membership of CEMAC on its economic development.development. Specifically, the aim is to establish whether this sub-regional integration is a source of trade creation or trade detour for Chad, and to assess the impact of macroeconomic, productive, infrastructural and free circulation integration on Chad's economic development. In order to provide some answers to our study's problem, we collected data and information using analytical and descriptive methods that enabled us to see how far CEMAC lags behind other African regional groupings, and how little CEMAC contributes to Chad's economic development. Our findings show that, in the medium and long term, CEMAC needs to focus on broader integration, to enable countries like Chad to benefit from larger markets and economies of scale.
