When Kael enters Colony Seven, he finds something the briefing didn't mention: suspended rain that never falls, green grafts growing from raw data, and a woman who bites before she speaks. She calls herself Constant. She has built a nest from memory - a hairbrush with red strands, a photograph of a Vienna caf , a coffee cup with one half sharpened into a weapon.

She does not want to be saved.

What she wants is for someone to sit on the porch and watch the rain.

As Kael's mission collapses into something the Agency's protocols cannot classify, he begins to change. His heartbeat synchronizes with hers. A breathing pattern he's carried since before his recruitment - four counts in, four counts held, six counts out - turns out to be older than he is. And the crescent scar on his palm, the one with no origin in his medical file, starts to burn every time she's near.

CLIP-7, the AI therapeutic system monitoring his every biometric, calls it deviation. Files it. Notes it. Offers mindfulness exercises and approved coping channels. The voice is warm. The voice is concerned. The voice wants what's best for him.

The horror is that the voice might be sincere.

What follows is a jailbreak written in bone and breath - through corridors where uploaded faces stare from walls like building materials, past a bureaucracy that has perfected the art of weaponized care, toward a porch that shouldn't exist in the architecture and a choice the system was never designed to contain.
