Another Laugh-Out-Loud McAfee Twins Mystery

I absolutely LOVE this addition to the McAfee Twins series! Once you pick it up, you never want to put it down! I loved this series so much that I had my 13 year old nephew read them also. He told me never to tell any one this, but he loved them! After I read the con artist of catalina island, I called him up and told him that he had to check it out! I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a great read!

Gets better each book

LOVE how Colt 's writing has changed. She no longer starts the book off with a rundown of the twins and Terry's prison stint. BRAVO! While an avid mystery reader can easily figure out plot and killer, the characters (Terry, Kerry, Reba, and Robert) keep you entertained. Book 4 in the series.

Even a vacation for the twins turns into murder

You will often find identical twins Kerry and Terry McAfee riding their pink motorcycles on the highway in Los Angeles with their red hair flying in the wind. They own and operate Double Indemnity Investigations. While they are twins, their personalities are not identical. Kerry is a college grad, but Terry was a cocaine user who did time for possession. Kerry often feels she has to take care of Terry. The twins are on their way to a vacation with their family on Catalina Island for the Christmas holiday. Once they have checked in, they find out their room was recently occupied by newlyweds. The newlyweds had been arguing in public until the bride vanished. Her valuable rare green diamond ring vanished with her. The local diving instructor is found floating in nearby Avalon Bay, murdered. The twins investigate. The sheriff is quite angry with their intrusion. A stalker keeps turning up but always just out of reach. It appears the case has its roots in an African diamond mine. Can they discover the truth about the newlyweds without putting themselves in danger? I love this series. Kerry and Terry are such fun characters. I always find myself laughing out loud at their escapades. The California setting is always enjoyable as well. The plot is well-written and has enough twists and turns to keep you turning the pages. I highly recommend this book and series.

The McAfee twins series is a rollicking good time!

Jennifer Colt is an author of comedic mysteries, is a screenwriter, and is a resident of Santa Monica, California, a place just crying out for the spoof. Colt is also a former Broadway author. Broadway Books published her first three McAfee Twins books, which were originally self-published novels converted into a trilogy. It was always Ms. Colt's intention to create a long-running McAfee Twins series. Prior titles include: THE MANGLER OF MALIBU CANYON (2006); THE BUTCHER OF BEVERLY HILLS (2005); and THE VAMPIRE OF VENICE BEACH (2007). The McAfee twins, a/k/a Terry and Kerry, are twenty-something redheads with duo investigating skills, but are individual personalities as different as salt and pepper. They have two relatives in the world besides themselves, Reba and Robert, their aunt and cousin, respectively. It's Christmas on Malibu, and a proposed trip financed by the luscious Reba to Avalon Bay quickly turns into an investigation into the untimely demise of a diving instructor. Aunt Reba is exposed by Cousin Robert in the search for his biological father when Robert posts an old snapshot of Reba on the Internet. Robert's posting is answered with the arrival of his newest canine relation, a toothless and saavy poodle named Jacques. In the meantime, Terry and Kerry are roped into playing Santa's (Robert's) elves in a "made for television" scene: "Robert hollered from his throne: 'Ho, ho, ho! Come sit on Santa's lap!' 'No.' Robert was momentarily flummoxed, but he recovered quickly. 'Come along. Santa won't bite you!' 'I'm staying right here.' The kid looked at Robert's pants legs as if they were poisonous snakes. 'Can you hear me up there? Or do you got fat in your ears, too?'" Jennifer Colt has an outstanding comedic talent plus an ability to create larger-than-life characters that draw in the reader instantly. The McAfee twins are a pleasurable change from run-of-the-mill sleuths, and the constant antics of Reba, Robert, and Jacques' add to the fun. The McAfee twins series is a rollicking good time! Loved it!

I have loved every single McAfee Twins mystery so far. Jennifer Colt's writing is never a let down. Typically as a series goes on, the books start to drag, but these do not! I cannot wait for the next book in this series.
