In order to understand the life of Jeremiah, we must first understand why he lived the way he did. Before Jeremiah was ever conceived in his mother's womb, and before he could become corrupt and an abomination to God, God's perfect plan for him was already in effect. Before Jeremiah was in his mother's womb, God Jehovah, Yahweh] was already devising His perfect plan for Jeremiah's life on earth. Although Jeremiah was unaware, he was about to be chosen, separated, and anointed by God as God's prophet to prophesy judgment to His own people. He lived and prophesied to the Southern kingdoms of Judah and Jerusalem, attempting to avoid God's judgment on them for idolatry. Yes, God formed Jeremiah to be used solely for His holy purposes. He was to come into this world with a nature that is more sensitive to God's will than anything and anyone else alive in that day. Not even a desire to enjoy the pleasure of women and marriage was in his heart. His purpose was to prophesy to all men and all women without reluctance, and without concerns from those who might object. Although he was the result of his own father's Hilkiah] seed, he did not follow the pleasures of the average man. He was to prophesy here and live forever later in heaven where there are no earthly pleasures, not even earthly marriages. He was a prophet of hope in a dying nation for those who would listen, but of impending demise to those who rebelled. God's people used things that God created and made them into their idol gods to worship. Two commandments come to mind, "YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER gods BEFORE ME", and "YOU SHALL MAKE NO GRAVEN IMAGES" God's children had gone so far astray that they thought their presence in the temple itself would protect them from God's coming wrath. But when Jeremiah preached on it, they learned otherwise, and he was arrested. But incarceration did not stop him. More on that in the book. And as we will see later on, the people are guilty of unrelenting idolatry as charged.
