A great place to start

I'm sorry to see that this book is now out of print. Hopefully it will be back soon, because it is an excellent resource for someone who has recently bought, or is contemplating buying, a first gun. Also a good read for those who have lots of hunting or plinking experience and thus consider themselves experts. They may find they have developed some bad habits. I can't agree with all of the author's opinions, but for the most part he's right on. There are some typos and lots of white space, which is regretable, but the author clearly knows his subject and cares enough about his readers to give them good information. This is certainly a more trustworthy source for new shooters than is the average web site.

Very informative

Having been in the military (USMC) oh so many years ago, there are many things long since forgotten about firearms. I felt this was a good read and very informative. Well worth the price. I did notice a couple of typographical errors but feel that was incumbent upon the publisher and editor to correct and in no way reflects on the authors knowledge or skills. It's too bad the author had to put up with such incompetence (the lack of a 5th star is on the publisher!). I do wonder about the other reviewer who claimed to be a novice gun owner but then goes into excruciating detail about items that probably wouldn't bother most people. A competitor maybe?
