The Comforts of God

Each of us invariably comes to a point in our lives where we experience some kind of affliction or suffering. Whether this comes in the form of loss, grief, heartbreak, rejection, loneliness, guilt, or sorrow, we will all go through deep waters at some point in our lives. These experiences can sometimes shake us to the core and make us feel hopeless- our personalities change, we lose focus, we enter into long periods of depression, and we despair. In such seasons, our minds may be tormented by painful memories, fears, anxious thoughts, and anguish. We may even be pushed to the point of contemplating suicide. Sooner or later, we come to a place where we realize that we are simply not strong enough to face life's battles on our own and that nothing in this world can offer us the comfort and strength we need to get through the deep waters of affliction. We must realize that only God can give us the comfort we need during times of adversity. King David wrote, "In the multitude of my anxious thoughts within me, Thy comforts delight my soul." God can let us experience supernatural delights beyond our human comprehension, if only we come to Him. He is aware of everything that we go through, and He knows us intricately because He made us. And because He knows and understands us more than anyone else, He can comfort us in ways no one else can. When we truly learn to depend on the Holy Spirit for the comforts He provides in our lives, no situation, calamity, or tragedy will be able to shake us.
