A must-have for every college student, THE COLLEGE STUDENT'S GUIDE TO THE LAW provides legal explanations, strategies for steering clear of problems, and detailed instructions about how to deal with the authorities-both educational and municipal-when trouble can't be avoided. Its retro look and humorous, approachable tone make it a fun read as well as an invaluable resource, for everything from planning a party to organizing a campus protest.
This is a comprehensive guide to every aspect of the law a college student will encounter. Without question most students and administrators will buy it for its chapter on Parties and the Police (a gem) and Sex; but don't miss out on the chapters on landlord/tenant relations, privacy, plagiarism and research, and intellectual property. Obviously, not even Lindsay can make the guidelines for conducting experiments on Human Subjects into light reading; but even this is refreshingly clear ---- and the rest of the book is (always) downright useful and (frequently) screamingly funny.
Great stocking stuffer

Informative and well-written, this is the perfect gift for all college students. The author has collected, in an accessible format, practical real world information, from freedom of speech and privacy rights in electronic communications to things students must look out for in an apartment lease. Parents of college students should present this book as a gag gift while holding out faint hope that it might actually spark some curiosity.
Comprehensive, Excellent

Really a fantastic book. Easy to read and actually, pretty funny, which is an accomplishment for a book that explains things like the Constitution and search and seizure law. Skip all the other college "guide books" that tell you how to make friends or what to eat at the cafeteria and buy this book instead. It's got real information that will actually be useful while you're at school.
Send your kids to college with a copy of this book

I bought this for my son, who starts college this fall. Someone recomended it. I almost didn't buy it because I was worried about sending my kid to school with a book that tells him how to "get away with stuff". So I took a good look at it before I passed it on and saw that that's not really what it's about. There IS a chapter on parties. But that's only one part (and the alcohol information is, more than anything, simply realistic about what college students will run into). More than talking about getting away with things, it talks about being responsible and knowing your rights. It just covers areas that college kids will care about: i.e. parties, bad grades, etc. It also talks about a lot of less controversial topics: free speech, activism, dealing with landlords, computer use, harassment. I hope my son doesn't get into any trouble at all while he's away, but if he does (and let's be honest, every kid gets into some trouble) I really want him to have access to the information in this book.
Funny and informative

Wow: guidelines for protesting, sexual harassment laws and money issues (not to mention the grade change thing). Where were you, C.L. Lindsay, when I was in college?
