The Cold Scrum - Derby Day
Derby Day was supposed to be the biggest moment of their lives. It became the day they disappeared.
At Ashwood, Derby Day isn't just a rugby match - it's a rite of passage, the one day the whole school holds its breath for. Mika "Big M" Ngema knows the weight of it better than most. As captain, he carries his team's hopes, his grandmother's warning tied in leather around his wrist, and a fear he won't say out loud.
Then, hours before kickoff, Mika and his teammates walk into his house - and vanish.
No struggle. No trace. Just silence where a team used to be.
As Ashwood's staff scramble, parents panic, psychics arrive with theories no one asked for, and even bitter rivals Draycliff join the search, the whole country starts asking the same question: where do you look for boys who didn't leave - they disappeared?
What Mika and his teammates find on the other side of that door is a place built on the same discipline that shaped them - trust, formation, brotherhood - except here, those lessons are the only thing keeping them alive. Because something is watching them from beyond the seam. Something that isn't measuring them as players.
It's measuring them as targets.
