A counterfeit ancient coin should have been an ordinary case. Instead, it draws private investigator Louis Carlyle into a conspiracy stretching from Cape Town's collectors to an international network of master forgers and thieves.

Unable to identify the counterfeit himself, Carlyle turns to Wynn Carrados, an old university friend who lost his sight years earlier. Though blind, Carrados has developed extraordinary powers of observation, reading clues through touch, sound, scent, and logic with astonishing precision. Together they uncover a criminal enterprise that replaces priceless coins with flawless counterfeits, exposing a conspiracy built on deception, greed, and meticulous craftsmanship.

As the investigation deepens, Carlyle finds a chance to redeem his ruined reputation, while Carrados discovers that blindness has never prevented him from becoming the detective he always dreamed of being.

Based on "The Coin of Dionysius" by Ernest Bramah, this hard-steampunk adaptation reimagines the classic Max Carrados mystery in an alternate industrial Cape Town, combining deductive mystery, atmospheric worldbuilding, and faithful adaptation into a new adventure.
