The story revolves around a cheeky little cat named Alfie who sneaks out from his family's London flat and embarks on a series of adventures.

He encounters obstacles and dangers, makes new acquaintances, and learns valuable lessons about the importance of friendship, family, and being cautious when out in the world away from home.

In the end, Alfie returns home to his family with the help of his new friends, thanking them for their love and support and pledging to be more cautious in the future.

The story is told using old and modern Cockney rhyming slang.

Each page is titled with a fun quirky cockney phrase with the meaning of that phrase being what the content of the page is about.
