The CMS In Wusasa - A Divine Mission To Hausaland

Most Rev'd Ali Buba Lamido, MA, DMin, PhD, DD, FIPA was ordained Deacon in 1993, priested in 1994 and was the Vicar of St. Andrew's Church, Kaduna-Vom from 1993 to 1996. He became a statutory Canon of the Diocese of Jos, on the 01 January 1997 and posted to St. Piran's Church, Jos, to serve as a Curate. It was while he was in St. Piran's Church that he was elected the first Bishop of Wusasa on 10 June 1997. Archbishop Lamido was consecrated Bishop on 30 November 1997, at the Cathedral Church of St. Stephens, Ikare Akoko. His Enthronement took place at the Cathedral Church of St. Bartholomew, Wusasa, on 02 December 1997. He was saddled with the responsibility of laying a very solid foundation for the building of a Diocese which was to be the nerve centre for the evangelisation of the Hausa-Fulani. He was appointed Archbishop of Kaduna Ecclesiastical Province, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), in January 2018 and Dean in April of the same year.

He is of the Fulani extraction and hails from Adamawa State.

The CMS Mission to Wusasa in the 1920s accomplished incredible feats producing an educated class which was to play a pivotal role in the development of the North and, indeed, of Nigeria. In addition, it provided, perhaps, the most advanced healthcare service on charity in Nigeria which touched the lives of ordinary people, to the glory of the Almighty. The St. Lukes Hospital established in 1929 has now been upgraded into a fully-fledged College of Nursing.

This little book is therefore a tribute to the profound success of the Mission of the CMS to Wusasa and to the creation of the Wusasa Diocese. It also brings the history of the Mission up to date, from the earliest beginnings to the present, documenting in pictures and in words, important personalities and landmarks that helped in making that history.
