A stark, potent read ...

I'm not sure why, but from the moment I began reading this book I was hooked. I read only a few chapters before I went to bed, but when I awoke the next morning immediately my mind was filled with images of deep woods, and I was gripped with a need to know what became of this fugitive mother and her etheral son. I found myself turning page after page flowing through the lean, haunting prose relentlessly seeking resolution, relief from the pressure which builds almost languidly to its unbearable pitch. A rare combination of the subtle and the stark, with deep undercurrents of truth. Its echoes will haunt me for some time to come ... (Note: steer clear of the dustjacket blurb, which reveals far too much of the story.)
