The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) operated 127 camps in Georgia between 1933 and 1942 and the camp location in Hiawassee was occupied by two different companies at different times, Company 427 and Company 1443. The book is a compilation of photos and text about the two companies including photos of the U.S. Forest Service at that location and of other structures nearby that were part of the camp facilities. The is the first public printing of any history of the Hiawassee companies, and in the lists of enrollees you will find many well-known names from Hiawassee, Young Harris and Blairsville in Georgia as well as Hayesville and Shooting Creek in North Carolina. The book includes a few digitally colorized photos as well as color photos of the remains of CCC structures outside the main camp area. Several of those photos are of a stone structure that is the remains of a hydroelectric plant located on a very unusual waterfall in the area.
