In a world where elemental powers are everyday occurrences, people possess abilities related to Air, Water, Fire, Earth, and the rare element, Spirit. These powers emerged in 1948, with individuals typically developing their abilities between the ages of one to seventeen. By 2014, individuals are mandated to attend school to explore the extent of their elemental abilities safely.

There have been only twenty recorded Spirit barriers, individuals with unique powers like healing and communicating with the dead. The world is ruled by monarchs, and even the U.S. President takes orders from them. Each elemental category has distinct abilities: Fire barriers can control flames, Water barriers manipulate water in various forms, Air barriers control wind and storms, and Earth barriers influence plants and rocks.

Additionally, individuals from all elements can create animals using their elemental abilities. There is a group called Elemental Circles, consisting of powerful individuals from each element (except Spirit), who perform rituals to honor their abilities and seek guidance.
