At a speech before the United Nations, noted speakers have suggested that the loss of lives during wars, plagues, and massive civil strife have helped maintain a healthy balance between the world population and the natural balance of nature. The loss of food production due to droughts in formerly natural plant growth regions, the melting of the ice at the poles causing the oceans' water levels to rise significantly and overall global weather changes are contributing to the diminishing ability of man to maintain the needed balance of food and population increases. The earth's population is estimated to be at just over 7 billion and is expected to exceed 10 billion during the next century. Without a major war or natural catastrophe, food production will not be able to sustain the projected population growth. Steps must be taken to ensure the existence of man's presence on earth...drastic steps.
