I am leery of romance in general because so much of it is just downright nasty with explicit sex scenes. This book is refreshingly clean of those. In some respects it reminds me of the works of Georgette Heyer. The plot of the story is not unique: Isobel Woodward, daughter of a Vicar, must marry well to raise the fortunes of her sisters. Her aunt, Lady Tittam takes her to Bath hoping she will catch the eye of a well-circumstanced gentleman. She ends up with three proposals from handsome but penniless Mr. Courtney, creepy Mr. Rattray and coldly reserved Lord Hawksworth. I won't tell more about the story because it's much more enjoyable to read it for yourself. The one glaring flaw in the story is the use of the Hawksworth's title. He should be called Lord Aumercy since he is the Earl of Aumercy and not Lord Hawksworth after his family's name. The edition I read is Thorndike's large print editon. These books are always very well made with sturdy pictorial covers and sewn bindings. The cover art leaves much to be desired as is common with these books. The clothing style is a strange cross between modern and I don't know what. Not Regency at all. The back of the book says this author has written Regencies under other pseudonyms. I wish I knew what they were. I gave this one five stars because I enjoyed it so much. Definitely on my read again list.
