The Gift of Reading

I got this anthology of Christmas stories, songs, poems, and recipes at age 7 as a Christmas gift from my Aunt Rose. She was a teacher. I did not learn to really read until I was in 5th grade but I spent hours pouring over the pages of this book "reading" (mostly from the memory of my mother's reading aloud) these pieces. I discovered words and worked out the mystery of the reading process with this book. Having a BIG book full of special stories made me feel so important. Giving a child who struggles with reading a large special book like the one is a great gift.
