The Chosen Witness
From Victor Methos, winner of the Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction, comes a gripping, morally uneasy thriller about a defense lawyer's search for the truth in a case haunted by her own past.
She's spent decades running from the memories. One case brings them all rushing back.
Mara Kinsell tries to find stability as a public defender and single mother. But every day's a struggle to move on from a childhood spent under the thumb of an enigmatic pastor. She escaped the cult he led, but she's never really been beyond the Flock's grasp.
And it's not just in her head.
When dead bodies surface across the quiet town of Copper Ridge, they're marked by the same rituals Mara once witnessed. And although the cult is long dead, the homeless man accused of the crimes is an unlikely culprit. It's up to Mara to prove it.
Digging deeper into the present, however, uncovers more devastation from her past. Things she didn't know, connections she never made, dangers she thought were behind her--it's all on her doorstep now.
Mara got away from the Flock. But someone's coming for her son...
