The Chosen of Aquian is the fourth book of The First people saga. It is now twenty-five years after the Earth is destroyed by three alien beings who had been worshiped as gods. The survivors awake from stasis to find themselves on the continent of Africa but contained within a protoplasmic bubble that is hurtling through space at close to the speed of light. Awakened, the old antagonisms reassert themselves and conflict threatens. They are then informed that the planet to which they are headed is occupied, and they prepare for war. The inhabitants of the planet are very different from what they expected, and a serious threat emerges, one which they are ill-prepared to handle. Two humans whose DNA has been modified by some unknown entity become themselves god-like, but they have very divergent views about what the humans' response should be. One fears the outcome; the other ignores it. What is clear is that the continuation of humanity is very much in doubt.
