I also met this author at a book signing and I've rarely met a nicer person. He is open, friendly and listens attentively to his audience. He is also a prolific writer. I have read several of his books, including this one, and I have liked all of them. This particular book has a unique twist, first that it's set in Charleston and it involves the first vampire family in America in 1752. I liked that original idea. This book has a lot of historical detail and action. Even the setting is exciting as the vampire family makes their way from Liverpool, they have to leave in haste, and join others crossing the Atlantic. Which, in those days, was no easy feat. The tension between the colonies and England also add to the tale. All the characters in this book are multifaceted beings who are interesting, the story is original and exciting, and I think it's a good read.
