A Personal Note to Parents
These are the type of solve-them-yourself, teen detective mystery books that I enjoyed reading in the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, often late at night while under the covers and holding a flashlight. They're actually the first in an entirely new genre for young readers: mature middle grade and young adult mystery fiction.

You may have found this book on Amazon under Mystery Books for Kids 9-12. A more appropriate listing would be Mystery Books for Kids 10-12 or Mystery Books for Kids 12-14. The ideal age range for this mystery book series is 11 to 14-years-old, with 12 and 13-years-old being the perfect ages.

Having said that, I've heard from plenty of parents whose 10-year-olds love this mystery book series. They're kids who like teen detective mystery books and are reading at a higher level than their classmates.

I've also heard from teens age 15 and older who can't stop reading these books. They identify with the characters and are hooked on the relationships between them.

I originally thought of these as mystery books for boys, but they contain strong female characters age 13, 14 and 15, and it turns out the books are just as popular with girl readers as boys.
