This discussion of public school choice considers school choice at all levels. It argues that choice programmes: promote inequity rather than improved quality; are expensive; require a large bureaucracy to administer; and do not necessarily lead to better education.
a strong statement against those that would ruin our schools. Read it to defend yourself against the right wing wackos.
Empirical rejection of school choice

Meier and Smith do a fine job in this book of rejecting the theory of school choice, by testing it against the actual outcome of choice and voucher proposals. They offer a variety of studies, local, national and international, that look at the effect of vouchers, and in doing so offer a solid case against them. It is about time someone put some research into this debate, which generally has relied upon theory rather than fact.
