The Candlemaker [Large Print]

After an accident in the family market, Hans had to make a trip into Ganz, Austria to buy a piece of glass. While walking to the city, he happened to get a ride from a neighbor who was going into the city to sell honey and beeswax. After taking the beeswax to the candle shop Hans met Anna who worked next door at the dress shop. Shortly afterwards, Hans became an apprentice at a candle shop and a romance began between the two of them. During his apprenticeship Hans learned a unique skill of hiding and sharing secrets inside of the candles in an effort to help his beloved Austria. Soon Hans and Anna married and both were devoted to each other and to the cause of freedom. During that dangerous time before World War II, they did not know whether each day would bring life or death. For years their lives intertwined in such amazing, dangerous, and wonderful ways.

Even after the war, when they moved to the United States, they continued their undercover work. Now, decades later, while Anna is grieving the loss of Hans, a note is slipped into her hand that calls her back one last time.

In this story of love, loss, resilience, and rebellion, Anna's final mission will prove that courage never grows old.
