Focus on Great Mystery Reading

We bought "The Camera Eye" from author, Dan Smith in a van going to a performance at The International Mystery Theater Festival. Dan is a playwright whose work "Slip" was being performed at the festival. "Can't put it down" is trite, but it is the truth. This first novel has us begging for more of his tremendous talent in setting a scene, which carries over into his fiction. The story of Shea Burke's first days on the job as an FBI agent is riveting and never lacks for twists to keep your eyes glued to the page. The character and her anger ring with reality. Stanley is an antagonist in the upper ranks of perversion. There are plenty of FBI procedural stories out there, but "The Camera Eye" has all the hallmarks of becoming a classic as more readers discover the wordsmithing skills of Dan Smith. Nash Black, author of "Qualifying Laps," "Sins of the Fathers," and "Taxes, Stumbling Blocks & Pitfalls for Authors 2007."

Taut and Suspenseful

The Camera Eye is the debut of an extremely fine storyteller. Smith weaves a taut, fast-paced, very modern tale of voyeurism, Internet perversity, and murder. So much mystery fiction seems removed from the realm of reality, but every page of Smith's book seems inspired by today's headlines and investigative reports. The Camera Eye is relentless in its suspense--I basically read it in one sitting. But what makes the book particularly fine is its weaving of past with present, childhood with adulthood, and the dance between criminal and investigator. I look forward to more by Smith (soon, I hope).

Hard to put this novel down

It is rare when I find that I am unable to put a book down, but with this book, I found myself staying up untill the wee hours of the night, unable to stop reading. The story grabs you from the begining and holds your interest till the end.The way the author blends the character's past with their present situations,is artfully done and ties in the whole story beautifully.I found when I was done with this novel,I began searching for more novels by this author, and cant wait for the next novel to become available.

The Camera Eye

The Camera Eye by Dan Smith is one of the best crime-thrillers that I have ever read. I felt that there was a depth to the characters that you don't often find in this genre. I especially like the way Smith relates the villains childhood to his current crimes. I usually read this type of book and am left with so many questions....not this time. I will be looking forward to Smith's next effort with great anticipation!
