Fun to read aloud

Just got our hard copy. We've been reading the free book online. Only bummer is that we were expecting color pictures in this book. We love the birds and were hoping to see them in color with the stories. Otherwise, a great read for all. Love reading it aloud. 3 stars only for the lack of color. The stories are 5 stars!

My 8yr old son loves this book!

My son does not want to stop reading this book - so much great information about different kinds of birds all from the perspective of Peter Rabbit!

A great way to learn about birds--with updated pictures too!

As a high school biology teacher for many years, I always assigned my students to positively identify 50 birds each Spring. It was an effort for some, but a number of my former students are now avid bird watchers in their own right! I wish I had known about this the Burgess Bird Book for Children at that time. I only stumbled upon this book last year, and found it chock full of fascinating information about the birds. The new pictures really bring it to life, also--even if this is a black and white edition. I highly recommend this fascinating book to anyone interested in learning more about the birds at their feeder, or teaching their children about the birds.

The Burgess Bird Book for Children

This was one of my favorite books as a child. It is a wonderful story written with the purpose of learning about birds.

Especially recommended as a read-aloud tool for parents

Thornton Burgess' stories 'interview' typical birds for kids, using these interviews to teach the basics on different common birds' appearances, behavior, eating and songs. His classic appeared in 1919 to much acclaim, and Dover's economy-minded paperwork reprint offers new generations the same introduction. The Burgess Bird Book For Children is especially recommended as a read-aloud tool for parents.
