Too real

A mysterious family, the Klopeks, moves into an old fixer-upper in the suburban neighborhood. Strange comings, goings, and sounds are heard in the night. Add to this a bone that the dog has recovered from their recently spaded back yard. Naturally, the neighbors must face up to the challenge and prove or disprove rumors about another missing neighbor and his little dog, too. As much as the mystery, it is the interaction among the neighbors that makes this film. You are introduced to a cast of characters that, if you live in the burbs, you could easily identify with. A sample of the neighbors is: Tom Hanks as Ray Peterson (victim of being too nosy), Carrie Fisher as Carol Peterson (down-to-earth housewife), Cory Danziger as Dave Peterson, Bruce Dern as Mark Rumsfield (paramilitary in his mind), Wendy Schaal as Bonnie Rumsfield in “Out There”(1995), Rick Ducommun as Art Weingartner, Patrika Darbo as Art's Wife, Corey Feldman as Ricky Butler, Heather Haase as Ricky's Girlfriend, Gary Hays as Ricky's Friend, Billy Stevenson as Ricky's Friend (as Bill Stevenson), Carey Scott as Ricky's Friend (uncredited), Henry Gibson as Dr. Werner Klopek, seen again in “The Blues Brothers”(1980), Theodore Gottlieb as Reuben Klopek (as Brother Theodore), Courtney Gains as Hans Klopek (I wonder what he is like when not acting?), Gale Gordon as Walter Seznick, Brenda Benner as Walter's Daughter, Dick Miller as a Garbageman, Robert Picardo as a Garbageman, Franklyn Ajaye as a Detective, Rance Howard as a Detective, Nicky Katt as Steve Kuntz (as Nick Katt), Kevin Gage as a Cop, Dana Olsen as a Cop, Darla Darla as Queenie (uncredited) (she is a real dog), Kevin McCarthy as Ray's boss (uncredited), Tony Westbrook as Neighbor Kid on Bike (uncredited) Oh, no, I live in the Burbs. The guy across the street has a flagpole.
