The Bunyip

Bunyips are a myth.

At least that is what we are told.

When Shneeb the bunyip wakes from fifty years of hibernation at his local lake, he finds a different world where humans have taken all his native food.

Hungry and upset, Shneeb moves in next door to Amelia Kelly and her family. She and her brothers must act quick to save themselves, and eventually the human race, from ending up on the bottom of the food chain

The Bunyip is a fast-paced Australian adventure story for young adults. Animating the folkloric world of the bunyip, the story opens with Shneeb, a nasty and selfish character, waking from his regular fifty-year hibernation and finding his local land overrun by houses, streets, and cars.

Tribal bunyip law, based on thousands of years of harmony with the aboriginals, forbids any bunyip from hunting a human. Shneeb however, unwilling to run and with his belly rumbling, breaks tradition and breaks into a house accross from the Kelly family. Here, Shneeb learns all about modern humanity while watching TV, flicking through magazines and spying on the neighbours. He begins plotting a new, more comfortable future for his species. A future where people are moved down the food chain and bunyips sit at the top.
